Laura Dekker’s work examines the subjectivities of representation and perception, in particular, the impact of technologies on the sense of self and our relationships with the physical and virtual worlds. She explores these ideas through interactive works, combining robotics, layered video, audio, artificial intelligence and traditional materials. Her works aim to engage people with a sensorially rich and provocative experience: virtual objects can intrude into the ‘actual’ world, or seemingly mundane materials are activated with a kind of primitive consciousness. Laura’s work has been shown internationally, most recently with Technology Is Not Neutral and the Lumen Prize touring exhibition.
